Nicosia: In a recent report by Eurostat, it has been revealed that 14.6% of the population in Cyprus is facing challenges in maintaining adequate warmth in their homes. This figure is notably higher than the European Union average, which stands at 9.2% for 2024.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the data shows an improvement across the EU, with a 1.4 percentage point decrease from 2023. Despite this positive trend, energy poverty remains a significant issue in specific countries. Greece and Bulgaria top the list, with 19% of their populations unable to keep their homes sufficiently warm. This marks a slight improvement from the previous year, where figures stood at 19.2% in Greece and 20.7% in Bulgaria. Other countries with high percentages include Lithuania at 18% and Spain at 17.5%.
Conversely, some EU nations reported lower levels of difficulty. Finland leads with only 2.7% of its population facing this issue, followed by Poland and Slovenia at 3.3%, and both Estonia and Luxembourg at 3.6%.
