European University Cyprus Launches Project to Enhance Clinical Study Inclusion

Nicosia: The School of Medicine of European University Cyprus has announced the launch of the IHI READI (Innovative Health Initiative, Research in Europe and Diversity Inclusion) project. This initiative aims to create a more inclusive clinical study ecosystem.

According to Cyprus News Agency, underserved and underrepresented populations in Europe, including ethnic minorities, older people, and socioeconomically disadvantaged groups, are often excluded from clinical studies. This exclusion leads to gaps in understanding and limits the generalizability of research results, affecting access to innovative health technologies for those most in need. The READI project seeks to address these barriers by increasing the representation of these groups and placing them at the center of clinical research across Europe.

The READI project involves a consortium of 73 organizations from 18 countries and is funded by the Horizon Europe Innovative Health Initiative with a budget of £66.8 million over six years. European University Cyprus will receive £1.2 million to focus on understanding the barriers faced by underserved and underrepresented populations. The university will also work on creating and piloting an inclusive clinical research network in Cyprus.
