European Commission Releases Eurobarometer Survey on Youth Engagement and Democracy

Brussels:Today, the European Commission published a Eurobarometer survey highlighting the growing engagement of young Europeans with democracy. The survey focuses on their views regarding key concerns such as employment, cost of living, and the EU's impact on their daily lives. The findings emerge as preparations are in progress for the EU Youth Strategy post-2027.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the survey targeted individuals aged 15 to 30 and shows an increase in participation in activities organized by various organizations, with 75% of young people involved in the past year. This is an increase from 64% in 2024. In addition, 55% reported participating in initiatives for societal change, up from 48% in 2024.

Many young Europeans, 60% in total, have engaged in activities in other EU countries, such as studying and volunteering. The survey is part of the Commission's 'Protect What Matters - Our Democracy' campaign, which includes a European Citizens' Panel focused on fostering democratic resilience.

The Eurobarometer also reveals that 75% of respondents believe EU actions impact their daily lives. Young people expect the EU to prioritize preserving peace, fighting poverty, and increasing job opportunities. They also want youth policies to address job opportunities and the cost of living.

The Flash Eurobarometer was conducted between June 19 and July 1, 2026, with a sample of 26,806 young people across the 27 Member States. The findings will contribute to discussions on the EU Youth Strategy post-2027, highlighting the need for more opportunities and access for young people in society.
