Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Marilena Raouna, met on Friday with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Andorra, Imma Tor Faus, and discussed EU-Andorra relations in the light of the recent conclusion of the negotiations for the EU-Andorra Association Agreement.

According to a press release, they discussed ways to enhance the positive perception of Andorran citizens regarding the benefits of the Agreement and the deepening of EU-Andorra relations.

Raouna informed the Andorran Foreign Minister about the preparations, as well as the political and organisational planning, in view of Cyprus’ assumption of the Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2026.

The Deputy Minister thanked the Andorran Foreign Minister for her long-standing supportive stance on the Cyprus issue in the Council of Europe and referred to the efforts made by the President of the Republic for the resumption of negotiations on the basis of the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey in
vaded and occupied its northern third. Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results. The latest round of negotiations, in July 2017 at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana ended inconclusively.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres appointed María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar of Colombia as his personal envoy for Cyprus, to assume a Good Offices role on his behalf and search for common ground on the way forward in the Cyprus issue.
