Mayor of Nicosia Constantinos Yiorkadjis met Tuesday with Secretary General of Europa Nostra Sneska Quaedvlieg Mihailovic and Vice President Androula Vasiliou, with whom he exchanged views on culture issues. A press release by the Municipality says that Mihailovic and Vasiliou were given a tour of the City Hall, the Cyens Center of Excellence and the Control Center of the Smart City project of the Municipality of Nicosia, where they discussed cultural heritage issues. They both welcomed the efforts of the Municipality for the protection and promotion of the walled city of Nicosia. The visit took place in the context of the honoring event for Hambis Tsangaris with the European Cultural Heritage Award and also the set up of the Europa Nostra Nicosia Hub, a network for the protection of the European Cultural Heritage in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East. Discussions and exchange of views took place, apart from the Mayor, with the Rector of the University Tasos Christofides, the Chairman of the Board of the Cyprus Institute, Stavros Malas, the representative of the Leventis Foundation, Agni Petridou and the Secretary of the Municipality, Myria Pilakouta. Director General of the Cyens Center of Excellence Yiorgos Chrysanthou said that the Center wants to participate in the program. The signing for the creation of the Europa Nostra Nicosia Hub, a network for the protection of European Cultural Heritage in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East will take place on Thursday, at Nicosia City Hall.
