EU Sends Emergency Energy Assistance to Ireland Following Storm €š¬…¡¬°owyn

Brussels: Following a request from Ireland for assistance due to power outages caused by storm €š¬…¡¬°owyn, the EU Civil Protection Mechanism has been activated. The EU has promptly mobilized 13 power generators from the Commission’s strategic reserve, rescEU, located in Poland. Additionally, four power generators offered by Denmark via the Mechanism are on their way to Ireland to help restore electricity.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the EU has also activated the Copernicus Emergency Management Service, providing analytical support to national authorities in Ireland. The EU’s Emergency Response Coordination Centre is closely monitoring the situation, maintaining constant communication with national authorities to ensure additional assistance is provided promptly if required.

EU Commissioner for Preparedness, Crisis Management, and Equality, Hadja Lahbib, emphasized the challenge extreme weather events pose to Europe’s disaster resilience. She acknowledged the importance of joint preparedness and solidarity efforts, expressing gratitude to Denmark and Poland for their swift assistance and collaboration in delivering power generators to Ireland.
