Nicosia: The five EU Missions under Horizon Europe are making significant strides in addressing Europe's societal challenges through scientific and technological innovation, as highlighted in a mid-term assessment published by the European Commission. According to Cyprus News Agency, all Missions are advancing towards their objectives, particularly the Climate Adaptation Mission, which has already surpassed its 2030 targets.

The EU Missions are extensive initiatives within Horizon Europe, designed to convert scientific and technological innovation into practical solutions that can be implemented across Europe. The assessment indicates steady progress across all five Missions towards their 2030 goals. The Climate Adaptation Mission has supported 292 regional and local authorities in implementing climate adaptation measures, far exceeding the target of 150 by 2030.

The Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities Mission has also made progress, with 107 cities adopting Climate City Contracts, aiming to cut emissions by 76% by 2030 with over £13 billion in investments. The Cancer Mission aims to improve the lives of over 3 million people through prevention and care, with current actions expected to benefit 2.3 million people by 2030. The Restore our Ocean and Waters Mission has delivered 121 solutions, engaged 86 regions, and completed the design of the European Digital Twin Ocean. Meanwhile, the Soil Deal for Europe Mission is progressing with 45 Living Labs established towards its goal of 100.

Launched in 2021, the five EU Missions aim to tackle challenges such as climate change, soil and water health, and cancer by mobilizing coordinated action and supporting societal transformation.
