EU High Representative Josep Borrell Embarks on Middle East Diplomatic Mission.

Nicosia: EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, is set to begin a significant diplomatic tour across the Middle East from November 20 to 24. This mission aims to engage in discussions concerning the ongoing conflicts and seek pathways to sustainable peace in the region.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Borrell’s itinerary includes an audience with King Abdallah II in Amman on November 20, where he will also deliver a keynote speech at the University of Jordan, under the endorsement of Princess Rym Ali. His visit continues on November 21 with a meeting with Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ayman Safadi, followed by a joint press conference. Borrell’s agenda also includes discussions with Palestinian leaders.

On November 22, Borrell will visit Cyprus to deliver a keynote speech at the Two-State Coalition for Israel/Palestine event in Nicosia, engaging with civil society representatives from both sides. His tour will culminate on November
24 in Lebanon, where he will hold bilateral meetings with Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Lebanese Armed Force Commander Josef Aoun, and representatives of the United Nations.

The backdrop of Borrell’s trip is the heightened conflict in Gaza and military tensions in Lebanon. His visit aims to explore possibilities for a sustainable ceasefire and support a long-term resolution based on the Two-State solution framework.
