Nicosia: Embassies of EU countries have come together under the initiative of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Nicosia to collaborate with the Association for Preventing and Handling of Violence in the Family (SPAVO) in a concerted effort against gender-based violence. This joint action is part of a wider 16-day international campaign aimed at raising awareness and urging institutions to protect fundamental human rights.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the partnership was marked by a gathering of Heads of Mission and embassy staff, along with the President of SPAVO, Maria Kousiou, at the Dutch Embassy in Nicosia. The event included a photo opportunity designed to amplify awareness through both traditional and social media platforms. Furthermore, the embassies of the Netherlands, France, and Austria will participate in SPAVO’s campaign by illuminating their premises in orange, a gesture to honor victims of gender-based violence.
The press release emphasized the commitment of the embassies to
collaborate with the people of Cyprus, local public institutions, and the broader diplomatic community to address this critical violation of human rights. “Our Embassies remain committed to cooperating with the Cypriot people, Cyprus’ public institutions, and the diplomatic community in combating this fundamental/critical violation of human rights. Violence against women must end,” the statement asserted.
