EU Commissioner for Sport Micallef to Visit Paphos for EU Sport Forum 2026

Paphos: European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport, Glenn Micallef, is scheduled to travel to Paphos in April 2026 to attend the EU Sport Forum. The event is set to take place on the 15th and 16th of the month and serves as a key platform for developing sports policy across Europe. It will gather a wide range of participants, including representatives from European institutions, governments, sports federations, athletes, coaches, and various organizations.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Commissioner Micallef plans to address several priorities during the forum. These include reinforcing the European Sport Model, advocating for equality, and enhancing solidarity and competitive balance within the sporting community. Additionally, mental health issues affecting athletes will be a focal point, alongside promoting physical activity across all demographics.

The forum will also consider strategies for advancing sports in the Mediterranean area. One of the highlights will be a high-level discussion on the integrity and investment in European basketball, aiming to ensure its sustainability. Commissioner Micallef is set to play a significant role throughout the event, delivering a keynote speech on the second day and engaging in official duties such as the signing ceremony for the European Week of Sport partnership.

Notably, this year's EU Sport Forum will mark a first in its history by being fully livestreamed, enabling broader participation and access to discussions regarding the future of sport in Europe, as noted by the European Commission.
