Brussels: European Commission spokesperson Olof Gill addressed inquiries regarding the upcoming Cyprus EU Presidency's approach to the next EU sanctions package against Russia, emphasizing that the Commission does not comment on sanctions packages that are under discussion and not yet presented. The Commission's stance was requested in light of the impending 20th sanctions package.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Commission spokesperson Gill stated, "the Cypriot Presidency begins in around ten days and we are already in close contact with them." He highlighted the collaborative efforts with Cyprus to prepare for their presidency, which includes ongoing discussions about Ukraine.
Regarding the 20th sanctions package, Gill reiterated that the Commission refrains from commenting on potential sanctions while they are still under deliberation. He noted the close cooperation with member states to ensure that the European Union takes all necessary measures to impede Russia's military actions.
