Nicosia: Environmental tax revenue in Cyprus amounted to pound 718.72 million in 2024, according to data published on Wednesday by Eurostat.
According to Cyprus News Agency, in the European Union, environmental tax revenue stood at pound 371.9 billion in 2024, compared with pound 350.4 billion in 2023, marking an increase of 6.1%, or pound 21.4 billion. Despite the increase in absolute terms, the share of environmental taxes in the EU's gross domestic product declined from 2.5% in 2014 to 2.1% in 2024.
Over the same period, environmental tax revenue as a share of total government revenue from taxes and social contributions fell from 6.1% to 5.1%.
