Energy Ministers of Cyprus and Israel Discuss Progress on Gas Fields and Electrical Interconnection

Tel aviv: Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry, George Papanastasiou, and his Israeli counterpart, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Eli Cohen, held a meeting on Tuesday in Tel Aviv. They discussed the progress of consultations between the two countries aimed at concluding an agreement regarding the ‘Aphrodite’ and ‘Ishai’ gas fields.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the ministers also addressed the need to implement the geostrategic project of the Israel-Cyprus-Greece electrical interconnection, known as the Great Sea Interconnector (GSI). This project is seen as a critical development in enhancing regional energy security and cooperation.

Papanastasiou, who was on a one-day working visit to Israel, also participated in a business forum. During the forum, he engaged with businesspersons to explore cooperation prospects and investment opportunities in Cyprus, highlighting the potential economic benefits for both nations.

The Minister represented the government of Cyprus at an evening event organized by the Embassy of Cyprus in Tel Aviv, marking the anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Cyprus.
