Employment Growth in Cyprus Reaches 1.7% in Q2 2026

Nicosia: Employment increased by 1.7% in terms of individuals and by 2.2% in terms of hours worked in the second quarter of 2026, according to data published on Monday by the Statistical Service. Specifically, total employment for the 2nd quarter of 2026 is estimated at 525,167 persons, of which 472,254 are employees and 52,913 are self-employed.

According to Cyprus News Agency, compared to the corresponding quarter of 2025, total employment increased by 1.7% for the 2nd quarter of 2026. The most significant percentage increases were observed in the economic activities of wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, construction, and arts, entertainment and recreation.

Meanwhile, actual hours worked for the 2nd quarter of 2026 are estimated at 246,570 thousand, recording an increase of 2.2% compared to the corresponding quarter of 2025. The most significant percentage increases were observed in the economic activities of wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, construction, and arts, entertainment and recreation.
