Nicosia: Cyprus is on high alert following the detection of foot-and-mouth disease cases, the Veterinary Services stressed on Saturday, noting that they have immediately activated the Emergency Plan for category A animal diseases.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Veterinary Services stated that with the activation of the Plan, the competent Disease Control Centers have been put into operation. Epidemiological investigation, sampling, and tracing procedures are being implemented, and containment and biosecurity measures are being imposed in all affected areas.
The actions of the Veterinary Services and the competent authorities are implemented based on an integrated operational plan with continuous scientific guidance and in coordination with the European Union. These measures have been in place from the first moment of detection of cases, both in the occupied areas in December 2025 and in the areas controlled by the Republic.
Finally, the Veterinary Services note that the situation is being monitored on a continuous basis, with the aim of limiting the disease and protecting livestock and production.
