Nicosia: Eleven Cypriot athletes are ranked among the world's top 100 in their respective events, according to the latest World Athletics rankings, updated September 15, 2026, the Amateur Athletic Association of Cyprus said.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Iosif Kesidis is the highest-ranked Cypriot, sitting 12th in the hammer throw with 1,225 points. The Mediterranean Games gold medallist and Commonwealth Games silver medallist is also the only Cypriot in the European top 10, ranking ninth.

Elena Kulichenko is ranked 22nd in the high jump with 1,186 points, while Filippa Fotopoulou is 31st in the long jump with 1,202 points. Fotopoulou is also 13th in the European rankings.

Milan Trajkovic is ranked 42nd in the 110-meter hurdles with 1,236 points and 15th in Europe. The Cypriot champion won silver at the Mediterranean Games and bronze at the Commonwealth Games, while equalling the Cyprus record in the event.

Valentina Savva is ranked 61st in the hammer throw with 1,092 points. Petros Michailidis is 66th in the shot put with 1,117 points, while Iosif Michalis Papa holds the same position in the discus throw with 1,090 points.

Styliana Ioannidou is 76th in the high jump with 1,102 points, while Olivia Fotopoulou is 83rd in the 200 meters with 1,159 points. Fotopoulou is also 22nd in the European rankings for the event.

Seventeen-year-old Marina Hadjichosta has broken into the world top 100 for the first time, ranking 93rd in the discus throw with 1,016 points. The Cypriot champion won gold at the European U18 Championships and bronze at the World U20 Championships.

Grigoris Nikolaou is ranked 98th in the triple jump with 1,081 points, with his fourth-place finish at the Mediterranean Games, with a 16.03-meter jump, among his key results.

According to the Amateur Athletic Association of Cyprus, the four athletes ranked in the world top 50, Kesidis, Kulichenko, Fotopoulou, and Trajkovic, qualified for the finals of their respective events at the European Championships in Birmingham.
