Limassol: Head of European Investment Bank (EIB) Nadia Calvi±o has identified water and housing as the primary challenges facing Cyprus, while expressing her pride in the European support and the impact of European investment in the region. Calvi±o made these remarks to the press ahead of a meeting with the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, during a joint session of the boards of the European Investment Bank and the European Investment Fund.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Calvi±o emphasized the productive nature of the meeting and highlighted the tangible impact of EIB-financed investments in Cyprus. She mentioned visits to student residences at the Cyprus University of Technology and the Waste Water Treatment Plant in Limassol as examples of the projects supported by the EIB.
President Christodoulides conveyed gratitude for the EIB’s longstanding support across various projects and expressed a keen interest in future collaboration, particularly in areas critical to Cyprus such as defense, security, research, and innovation. He noted that these topics would be part of the discussions in their upcoming bilateral meeting.
Calvi±o also announced the adoption of the second phase of the climate road map in Cyprus, which will prioritize projects enhancing Europe’s competitiveness and security. She underscored the EIB’s commitment to doubling investments aimed at adapting to and preventing the impacts of climate change, a significant concern in Cyprus. Additionally, she highlighted efforts to simplify processes to reduce costs and bureaucracy for companies, especially small and medium-sized enterprises.
