Nicosia: Challenges related to the issue of water sustainability and resilience in the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean Region will be discussed at a regional conference, organized by the European Investment Bank (EIB) in Nicosia on Thursday.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the one-day conference will bring together officials from states such as Cyprus, Jordan, and Greece, as well as lenders such as the EIB, the European Reconstruction and Development Bank, and the Council of Europe’s development bank. Maria Panayiotou, Cyprus’ Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and the Environment, and Kyriacos Kakouris, the EIB Vice President, will address the conference.
The conference aims to highlight the pressing water challenges faced by the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean Region, bringing together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to foster collaborative solutions. The EIB stated in a press release that the region is experiencing significant water scarcity, exacerbated by climate change, populati
on growth, and industrial demands.
