Egyptian Helicopters Arrive in Cyprus to Combat Fires

Limassol: The two helicopters from Egypt have arrived in Cyprus, according to information from the Ministry of Energy, Commerce, and Industry. ‘We have just been informed that the two firefighting helicopters that took off from Egypt about two hours ago have just landed at Andreas Papandreou Airport and are awaiting instructions and coordination from local authorities to begin operations,’ the Ministry said in a press release.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the Ministry has been informed by the Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and the Egyptian Ambassador to Cyprus. The dispatch of two specialised helicopters from Egypt to assist in the efforts to extinguish the fires that have been raging since yesterday in Paphos and Limassol was announced earlier in joint statements from the coordination centre in Limassol by the Minister of Energy, George Papanastasiou, and the Egyptian Minister of Petroleum, Karim Badawi.
