Nicosia: The Health Insurance Organization (HIO) is actively coordinating with all relevant parties in response to the recall of pharmaceutical products, Senior Officer at the Directorate of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices at HIO, Gnosia Achniotou, informed CNA on Friday.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Achniotou emphasized that the HIO maintains regular communication with the Pharmaceutical Services, the Purchasing and Procurement Directorate of the Ministry of Health, Remedica, and healthcare professionals including doctors and pharmacists. This collaboration aims to efficiently manage the recall process.
Achniotou highlighted that the HIO has issued two informational notifications to doctors and pharmacists. These notifications equip healthcare providers with essential information about available alternative products, either containing the same substance or belonging to the same pharmacological category, ensuring they can effectively assist the public.
The notifications also address the availability of Methyldopa, as stocks of other batches from Remedica remain unaffected by the recall. For Hydralazine, a drug used to treat hypertension, the Purchasing and Procurement Directorate of the Ministry of Health is actively seeking alternative solutions from international sources, expected within one to two months.
Achniotou urged the public to consult their physicians for appropriate guidance during this period. In a press release, Remedica clarified that the recall actions were preventive measures.
