Nicosia: United Nations Under Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo, is set to have a private dinner with Cyprus negotiators on Monday. The dinner will include Menelaos Menelaou and Gunes Onar, as they discuss potential pathways to peace for the divided island.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the dinner is part of a series of engagements for DiCarlo, who will also meet with the Women’s Bicommunal Coalition group at 1500 on the same day. This group is involved in fostering dialogue between the communities on the island.
Cyprus has been a divided nation since 1974, following Turkey’s invasion and subsequent occupation of its northern third. Despite numerous rounds of United Nations-led peace talks, a resolution remains elusive. The most recent negotiations, held in July 2017 at the Crans-Montana resort in Switzerland, ended without agreement.
