Brussels: Deputy Minister of Tourism, Costas Koumis, conducted a series of important meetings in Brussels on October 21st, focusing on sustainability, competitiveness, and resilience within the European tourism ecosystem. In addition to these discussions, Koumis participated in a promotional Roadshow aimed at boosting Cyprus’s profile as a tourism destination.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Koumis engaged with high-ranking officials including Magda Kopczynska, Director of the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE), Isabel Riano, Director of the Directorate-General for Competition (DG COMPET), and Anna Panagopoulou, Director of the Office of the European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism. These meetings centered on the main priorities for the Cyprus Presidency of the EU Council in 2026, emphasizing the necessity of effective preparation and collaboration with EU institutions.
The Deputy Minister also attended a Roadshow in Ghent, targeting the Belgian market to promote Cyprus as a prime tourism destination. The initiative appears to be successful, with an increase of 6.5% in arrivals from Belgium compared to the previous year.
Additionally, the Deputy Ministry has been proactive in the Netherlands, organizing promotional activities to strengthen Cyprus’s presence in the Dutch market. This effort has resulted in a significant 35% increase in arrivals from the Netherlands, highlighting the effectiveness of these promotional strategies.
