After one year of co-chairing the European Mediterranean Regulators Group (EMERG) with Israel, Deputy Commissioner for Communications, Petros Galides, has officially taken over the chairmanship of the EMERG for the year 2024.
EMERG was founded on July 1, 2008 in Malta, as an independent platform of the National Regulatory Authorities of the Mediterranean and European countries for electronic communications networks and services.
The EMERG Member Countries are Albania, Austria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Malta, Montenegro, Morocco, Palestine, Portugal, Spain, Slovenia, Switzerland, Tunisia and Turkey.
The principles of EMERG derive from the ideals and principles of Euro-Mediterranean cooperation defined in the Barcelona Declaration of 28 November 1995, which establishes the principles of a cooperative relationship aimed at establishing the Mediterranean region in a common area of peace, stability and prosperity through the stre
ngthening of political dialogue and cooperation in matters of security, economy, society and culture.
