National responsibility is the only path that the President of the Republic and his government take, Defence Minister Charalambos Petrides has said on Sunday.
Addressing a memorial service for the heroes of Avgorou village of 1955-1959 and 1963- 1964, Petrides repeated the President of the Republic and the government’s dedication to fully investigating the fate of the missing persons.
He said the relatives of the missing are paying the heaviest price of the continued drama of the Turkish invasion.
We owe it to the heroes of Avgorou to continue the fight for justification. We know, he added that their sacrifice will be justified only when the occupation and settlement of Cyprus ends and our country is freed and reunited.
The Defence Minister conveyed the message that “we continue with faith to the fair struggle for an honourable, dignified and viable solution to the Cyprus problem based on Security Council resolutions and the values and principles of the EU”.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkish troops invaded and occupied the island’s northern third.
