Limassol: The passenger ferry Daleela commenced its first voyage of the year, connecting Cyprus with Greece, marking the beginning of its fourth year of operation. Deputy Minister of Shipping, Marina Hatzimanoli, expressed satisfaction with the growing public interest in the sea passenger link, noting that the initiative continues to receive increasing public support annually.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Deputy Minister Hatzimanoli highlighted improvements in safety procedures and checks, emphasizing that safety remains a priority. Daleela has undergone upgrades by the contractor company Scandro Holding Ltd. She also mentioned increased visitor numbers from cruise ships this year, expecting 170,000 visitors, a notable rise from the previous year.
Commenting on potential maritime connections with other countries, Hatzimanoli revealed that there is interest in connections with Israel and Lebanon, stating that Cyprus is prepared to support any entrepreneurs interested in launching new maritime ventures. She also expressed optimism about the growth in the cruise sector, anticipating 170,000 visitors from 130 cruise ships compared to 120,000 in 2024.
Simon Pitout, CEO of DP World Limassol, emphasized the economic benefits of the ferry link service, which boosts tourism by connecting Cyprus and Greece over the summer. He also noted the recovering growth of the cruise sector following recent events in the Middle East, asserting that Cyprus has much to offer the industry.
Charalambos Manoli, CEO of Scandro Holding Ltd, reported that bookings for Daleela are on par with last year’s figures, with the first trip seeing higher demand and limited availability for July. He affirmed that the public’s enthusiasm for the service is evident and that the company is committed to meeting customer needs.
Era Philippou, Deputy Mayor of Tserkez Tsiflik, representing the Limassol Municipality, remarked on the successful establishment of the sea passenger link over the past four years. She emphasized its role in strengthening cooperation, tourism, and ties between Cyprus and Greece, expressing hope for its continuation in the future.
The Daleela is scheduled to make 22 trips this season, beginning from the port of Limassol on May 31 and concluding on September 2 from Piraeus.
