Cyprus Welcomes US-Iran Agreement as Key Step Towards Regional Stability

Nicosia: Cyprus has welcomed the announcement of the agreement between the United States and Iran. In a message on "X" on Monday, the Foreign Affairs Ministry stated that the agreement represents a critical step for sustained de-escalation across the region, including Lebanon, and aims for the restoration of freedom of navigation. The ministry emphasized that this development provides renewed momentum towards a comprehensive negotiating framework for a lasting settlement of the nuclear issue and all other critical issues.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the US and Iran announced they have reached an agreement that will take effect on Friday. President Donald Trump has stated that the US is lifting its naval blockade on Iranian ports and that the Strait of Hormuz will reopen once the agreement is signed. This move is expected to ease tensions and facilitate smoother diplomatic engagements in the region.

The Cyprus Foreign Affairs Ministry has encouraged all parties involved to seize the opportunity presented by the agreement and to remain committed to dialogue, restraint, and diplomatic engagement. The ministry's message highlights the importance of continued efforts towards peaceful resolutions and the potential for this agreement to contribute positively to regional stability.
