Cyprus Space Exploration Organisation Launches Innovative “Astrocafeneion” Podcast in Cypriot Dialect

Nicosia: The Cyprus Space Exploration Organisation (CSEO) has announced the launch of an innovative public outreach initiative called “Astrocafeneion – ? F?s??? ?a? ? ?st??f?s??? µe ap?? ????a” (‘Physics and Astrophysics in simple words’) podcast, aimed at making complex astronomical concepts accessible to the general public.

According to Cyprus News Agency, this unique podcast series, presented in the Cypriot dialect, invites listeners to a virtual “coffee shop” where intricate topics like black holes and planetary forces are explained in an engaging and simplified manner. The “Astrocafeneion” podcast is a natural progression of CSEO’s successful outreach programmes, such as the “CSEO 2030: SpaceWorks” webinar series, which has featured global scientists and Nobel Laureates and reached hundreds of thousands of viewers worldwide.

Mr. Andreas Constantinou, the presenter of the podcast and CSEO’s National Outreach Coordinator appointed to the International Astronomical Union (IAU), ensures that the content aligns with international astronomical outreach standards. Mr. Colm Larkin, Chief Innovation Officer and Head of Education at CSEO, described “Astrocafeneion” as a blend of local dialect and universal wonder, aimed at creating an inviting space for curiosity. He emphasized CSEO’s commitment to fostering a scientifically engaged Cyprus, as demonstrated through initiatives like SpaceWorks and the upcoming NovaSpaRC competition.

Mr. George A. Danos, President of CSEO, highlighted the podcast as a reflection of CSEO’s philosophy to make space accessible to every Cypriot. He noted that the initiative supports the broader goal of enhancing scientific literacy and promoting STEM, using innovative methods and leveraging the C-SpaRC’s capabilities.

The launch of “Astrocafeneion” aligns with CSEO’s broader initiatives, including the management of COSPAR’s 1st International Innovation in Space Research Competition (NovaSpaRC). These efforts are part of CSEO’s strategy to build a dynamic space ecosystem in Cyprus, engaging audiences both locally and internationally.

Listeners can tune into the “Astrocafeneion” on YouTube, Facebook, and Spotify, with the premiere set for Sunday, 1st June 2025, at 7:00 PM Cyprus Time. The podcast can be accessed through CSEO’s social media platforms and streaming services.

The Cyprus Space Exploration Organisation (CSEO) continues to spearhead Cyprus’s national space ecosystem, promoting space research, innovation, and public outreach. As the National Adhering Organisation to the IAU and a representative to various international space bodies, CSEO is dedicated to establishing Cyprus as a key player in global space exploration.
