Cyprus Sees Calm Seas with Weak High Pressure Predicted to Continue

Nicosia: The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a forecast for the sea area of Cyprus, predicting mainly fine weather conditions for the period from 1200 on May 9, 2026, until 1200 on May 10, 2026. The forecast covers a sea area extending 8 kilometers seawards, with atmospheric pressure recorded at 1015 hPa at the time of issuing.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the affected area will experience weak high pressure, contributing to good visibility and smooth to slight sea conditions. The sea surface temperature is expected to be around 20°C, and no warnings have been issued. Winds during the period will vary across different coasts, but are generally expected to remain within the 3 to 4 Beaufort scale range, occasionally reaching 4 to 5 locally.

For the West Coast, afternoon winds are anticipated to be west to northwest, measuring between 3 to 4 Beaufort, locally reaching 4 to 5, with the state of the sea being slight. Nighttime winds are expected to shift to northwest to northeast, ranging from 3 to 4 Beaufort, resulting in smooth to slight sea conditions. By morning, variable winds at a strength of 3 will maintain smooth to slight sea conditions.

The South Coast will see afternoon winds from southeast to southwest, ranging from 3 to 4 Beaufort, occasionally reaching 4, with a smooth to slight sea state. At night, winds will switch from northwest to north, registering 3 to 4 Beaufort, locally variable at 3, with the sea remaining smooth to slight. Morning conditions will continue with variable winds at a strength of 3.

On the East Coast, the afternoon will bring south to southwest winds at 3 to 4 Beaufort, with a smooth to slight sea. Nighttime will see a change to west to northwest winds at 3 Beaufort, maintaining smooth to slight conditions. Morning winds will be variable at a strength of 3.

Finally, the North Coast will experience afternoon winds from west to northwest at 3 to 4 Beaufort, with smooth to slight sea conditions. At night, winds will shift to southeast to southwest at 3 Beaufort, keeping the sea smooth to slight. Morning winds will remain variable at a strength of 3.
