An increase of 472% in registered appeals before the Administrative Court of International Protection by asylum seekers and foreigners was recorded between 2020-2023, figures released by the Law Office show.
According to these figures made available Friday, from 2022 to 2023 there was a 9% decrease in new registered appeals. Moreover, 76.53% of appeals registered before the Administrative Court of International Protection in 2023 involved applicants from countries that are described as safe.
The Law Office refers to its contribution for the management of the large number of cases registered against the Republic in the Courts due to the increased migration flows in the Republic.
One of the responsibilities include the representation and defense of the competent authorities such as the Ministry of the Interior, the Asylum Service, the Civil Registry and Migration Department, before all Courts in the Republic of Cyprus, in appeals against the Republic registered by foreigners and asylum seekers.

one, the Law Office handled a total of 10,001 new cases before the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, the Administrative Court and the Administrative Court of International Protection. Furthermore, 8,377 new cases concerning asylum seekers were registered before the Administrative Court of International Protection and 1,230 new appeals concerning foreigners were received by the Administrative Court.
The figures show that in 2023, 9,818 cases were processed before the Administrative Court of International Protection of which only 45 had a successful outcome, i.e. 0.46%.
The Law Office figures also show that 76.53% of the appeals registered before the Administrative Court of International Protection concern applicants from safe countries and it is added that applicants from these countries decreased by 8.14% compared to 2022, while applicants from non-safe countries increased by 7.09%.

eived for 2023 with 71% of the decisions of the Administrative Court concerning foreigners, being in favor of the Republic while 29% were against.
