Cyprus reports 4 deaths and 1.421 new COVID cases, 157 patients hospitalised

Cyprus Health Ministry on Thursday announced 4 deaths due to COVID 19 and 1.421 new cases while the patients receiving treatment in hospitals are 157. The positivity rate stands at 2.11%. Total deaths since the pandemic broke out are 988 and cases rose to 464.204.

The deceased are 3 males ages 58, 89 and 87 and a female 90 years old. The 58-year-old man passed away August 2021 but his death was reported outdated.

The Ministry said that 31 patients are in serious condition (9 are in an ICU and 22 in ACU). Data show that 49.05% were unvaccinated. Moreover 10 patients who are no longer infectious are still intubated in an ICU. Today a total of 67.206 tests were carried out of which 3.083 were PCR and 177 cases were detected (Positivity rate PR 5.74%), 64.123 were rapid tests and 1.244 cases were diagnosed (PR 1.94%). In the framework of contact tracing 126 PCR tests were conducted and 13 cases were reported (PR 10.32%) while 1,144 PCR tests were done on private initiative and 110 came back positive (PR 9.62%). A total of 22.538 rapid tests were done and 782 cases were reported (PR 3.47%). Via the testing programs of the Health Ministry a total of 41.585 rapid tests were done and 462 cases were reported. In testing units, the rapid tests were 10.350 and 357 cases were diagnosed (3.45%).

In elementary schools the rapid tests were 18.287 and 45 cases were detected (PR 0.25%), in high schools from 9.630 tests 34 cases were reported (PR 0.35%) and from test-to-stay scheme 1.426 tests were done and 11 came back positive (PR 0.77%). In special schools no case was reported from 146 tests while in nursing homes 12 cases were diagnosed from 1.248 tests (PR 0.96%). In closed units the tests reached 498 and 3 cases were reported (PR 0.6%).
