Cyprus President – Lebanon’s PM agree to continue coordination on migration

President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides spoke on Thursday on the phone with Lebanon’s Prime Minister Najib Mikati, following their recent meeting in Beirut, with both men agreeing to stay in touch in order to coordinate their steps further.

The President’s visit in Beirut took place amid increased arrivals of boats from Lebanon to Cyprus, carrying mostly Syrian nationals.

In a written statement, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis says that the telephone conversation was held in order to take stock on the course of implementation of everything that was discussed during the April 8 visit in Lebanon, where President Christodoulides was accompanied by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and the Interior, as well as the Commander of the Cyprus Intelligence Service/National Security Advisor.

‘The President of the Republic informed the Prime Minister of Lebanon also on the contacts he has at EU level’ as to the potential role while pursuing the joint effort, Letymbiotis adds.

Finally, he says, the t
wo leaders agreed to stay in touch to coordinate their steps further.
