Nicosia: Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides welcomed the Gaza peace summit as a day of ‘hope and promise’ for the region. In a post on X, President Christodoulides expressed his privilege in being part of the Sharm El Sheikh Summit for Peace in the Middle East, emphasizing the significance of the event.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis highlighted past efforts by President Christodoulides, including the presentation of the ‘Amalthea Plan’ at the Paris Conference two years ago. This Cypriot initiative aimed to establish a maritime humanitarian corridor from Cyprus to Gaza, which has since facilitated the delivery of over 25,000 tons of humanitarian aid, showcasing Cyprus’ commitment to regional stability and humanitarian efforts.
During the summit, President Christodoulides introduced a concrete 6-point Plan for the next phase of the Gaza Peace Agreement’s implementation. Letymbiotis noted that this plan aligns with key elements of U.S. President Donald Tr
ump’s 20-point Peace Plan, aiming to leverage Cyprus’ geographical position, operational capacity, and diplomatic relationships to aid its execution.
Reflecting on Cyprus’ past contributions, Letymbiotis emphasized the country’s ongoing role in promoting peace and stability, reinforcing its position as a proactive agent in regional development and humanitarian responsibility.
