Cyprus President Criticizes Turkey’s UN Secretary-General Aspirations

Frenaros:Turkey's actions, according to Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides, are at odds with its aspirations for the United Nations Secretary-General position. He made this remark following his arrival at an event in Frenaros village on Friday evening.

According to Cyprus News Agency, President Christodoulides responded to questions about reports regarding Turkish diplomat Feridun Sinirlioglu's interest in becoming the next UN Secretary-General. He stated, "I have nothing to comment on this in public. Turkey is doing its job and we are doing ours."

He further expressed that it is inconsistent for a country to pursue such a significant role while violating the UN Charter. Turkey's military presence in northern Cyprus since 1974, following its invasion, remains a point of contention.
