Brussels: Cyprus does not aspire to act as a political mediator for Gaza but aims to support a plan that promotes Gaza’s viability while respecting Israel’s security concerns, President Nikos Christodoulides stated during a working dinner at the first EU-Egypt Summit. He presented a six-point plan, aligned with US President Trump’s plan for Gaza, according to a written statement by the Director of the President’s Press Office, Victoras Papadopoulos.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Papadopoulos highlighted that President Christodoulides also emphasized the significance of the new EU Mediterranean Pact and expressed appreciation for Egypt’s role. The President discussed Cyprus’s potential involvement in implementing Trump’s peace plan.
In this context, Papadopoulos explained that the Republic of Cyprus proposed a model of contributory implementation, which consists of six operational pillars, building on the “Amaltheia” plan in collaboration with the UAE and UNOPS.
Papadopoulos further noted the President’s remarks on the EU’s Mediterranean Pact, which seeks to enhance the Mediterranean as a strategic link between Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The implementation of the Pact will be a priority for Cyprus during its EU Council Presidency.
In conclusion, President Christodoulides commended Egypt’s crucial stabilizing role and stressed the need for EU and IMF support for Egypt’s macro-economic stability, Papadopoulos mentioned.
