Nicosia: President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides urged the newly-appointed Cabinet members to work tirelessly as they officially took on their roles during a swearing-in ceremony at the Presidential Palace. The ceremony, which took place at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, marks a significant transition period for the Cypriot government.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the newly appointed officials include Energy Minister Michalis Damianos, Labour Minister Marinos Moushiouttas, Justice Minister Konstantinos Fytiris, Health Minister Neophytos Charalambides, and Deputy Minister of Social Welfare Clea Hadjistephanou Papaellina. Additionally, Marios Hartsiotis has been appointed as Presidential Commissioner. President Christodoulides emphasized the challenging period they are stepping into, particularly with Cyprus soon to assume the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The President encouraged the new officials to immerse themselves in their respective responsibilities fully and utilize the human resources and technocrats available within their ministries. He also highlighted the importance of engaging with citizens and addressing their legitimate demands. Stressing the importance of serving the public interest, President Christodoulides called for adherence to legality, transparency, and a strict code of conduct.
Newly appointed Energy Minister Michalis Damianos, speaking on behalf of his colleagues, expressed their commitment to transparency, democracy, and meritocracy. He assured that the new Cabinet members are ready to make tough decisions for the country’s benefit, even if it means facing political repercussions.
