Nicosia: The Cyprus Police helicopter “Akritas” took off at 11:00 am Cyprus time (10:00 am CET) on Thursday with a full crew to travel to Israel and assist in firefighting efforts.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Ministry of Justice and Public Order, along with the Cyprus Police, made this announcement on the platform ‘X’.
Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis, responding to a question from CNA, said that Israel requested assistance from the Cypriot Government to help combat a large fire in Jerusalem. Cyprus promptly responded and informed Israel about the availability of assistance, including ground forces and air assets.
Following further communication between Israel and the Republic of Cyprus, the Bell 412 helicopter, with its four-member crew, departed this morning to assist in the firefighting efforts. The Spokesman noted that Cyprus remains in constant contact with Israel, ready to dispatch ground forces if necessary.
