Cyprus on “Red Alert” for Fire Risk on Tuesday

Nicosia: The Department of Forests has issued a warning that the risk of wildfire outbreak and spread will be at a ‘red alert’ level on Tuesday. The announcement was made through a press release issued on Monday.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the Department of Forests emphasises that causing a fire is a criminal offense under the Forest Law and the Prevention and Suppression of Wildfire Law. Such actions are punishable by severe penalties, underscoring the seriousness of the situation.

The Department has made an urgent appeal to the public to exercise caution during their outings. It is crucial to avoid actions and activities that could potentially ignite a fire. This includes proper disposal of smoking materials and adherence to safety guidelines in vulnerable areas.

Additionally, individuals are urged to remain vigilant. If smoke or fire is detected, they should immediately contact the authorities by calling 1407 for the Forest Department or 112 for the Fire Service. The cooperation of the public is vital to prevent potential disasters during this period of heightened risk.
