Nicosia: Cyprus will remain in a ‘Red Alert’ state for fire risk on Sunday, July 27, due to the extremely high risk of outbreak and spread of forest fires, according to the Department of Forests. The Department has issued a press release urging the public to exercise caution during their outdoor activities.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Department made an urgent appeal to the public to avoid any actions and activities that might trigger a fire. The Department stressed that causing a fire is a punishable offence under existing legislation, which carries severe penalties.
The Department has called on citizens to be vigilant and to report any signs of smoke or fire immediately. Citizens can contact the Forestry Department at 1407 or the Fire Service at 112 if they notice any potential fire hazards.
