Nicosia:"With What Remains," an art exhibition at the Cyprus Museum, will feature works by artists Andreas Mallouris and Leontios Toumpouris. Curated by Cristina Anglada, the exhibition is set to run from November 6, 2026, to January 31, 2027, focusing on themes of fragments, reconstruction, memory, and care within the museum's context.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Department of Antiquities announced that the exhibition coincides with a transitional phase for the museum as it prepares its main collection for relocation to a new setting with updated architectural and museological frameworks. The exhibition includes site-specific interventions by the artists, engaging with the museum's archaeological displays and spaces.
The exhibition challenges traditional notions of reconstruction, viewing it not as a return to an original state but as a process of interpretation and imagination. It suggests that fragments can serve as starting points for new ideas rather than just reminders of the past. Toumpouris' work, for example, engages with archaeology and landscape through sculpture and fiction, viewing non-resolution as an opportunity for development rather than failure.
Mallouris combines his artistic practice with his experience as a reconstructive surgeon, exploring themes of vulnerability and healing. His work emphasizes the body's capacity for care and transformation, using elements like functional hands and scars to convey these ideas. The exhibition encourages a reconsideration of histories and relationships, asking what becomes possible when working with what remains.
The exhibition is supported by Pylon Art and Culture and the BA in Fine Art, Department of Design and Multimedia at the University of Nicosia.
