Nicosia:The Ministry of Defence has pledged to continue its efforts to enhance and modernize the country's defence capabilities, as well as to strengthen strategic partnerships and Cyprus's role within the European Union and the region. This was stated by the Minister of Defence, Vasilis Palmas, during press statements following the military parade celebrating Cyprus' Independence Day.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Minister Palmas emphasized the state's recognition of the contributions and sacrifices made by individuals in the pursuit of Cyprus's freedom and independence. He also honored those who have served and continue to serve the nation with dedication and responsibility over the past 66 years.
Minister Palmas highlighted the need for constant vigilance and operational readiness in the face of a complex and changing geopolitical environment. He reiterated the Ministry's commitment to strengthening defence capabilities and strategic partnerships, underscoring the importance of Cyprus as a reliable partner within the European Union.
The Minister expressed his gratitude to the leadership and personnel of the National Guard and Security Forces for their efforts in organizing the parade. He also acknowledged the presence of the Greek Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias, and praised the participation of Greek fighter aircraft, which signifies the strong bonds between Cyprus and Greece.
He extended his thanks to the Ambassadors and defence attach©s of friendly nations, particularly Egypt, France, the United Kingdom, and the United States, for their participation in the parade, noting the involvement of Egyptian and UK aircraft.
