Cyprus Identified as Target in Recent Cyberattacks Linked to Russia

Accra:Cyprus has been identified as one of the European Union Member States targeted by cyberattacks attributed to Russian-linked activities, as revealed in a recent briefing by the European Parliamentary Research Service (EPRS) on hybrid warfare.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the EPRS briefing highlighted that in July 2026, EU Member States condemned harmful Russian cyber activities. These activities involve both state and non-state actors, including intelligence services, cybercriminal groups, hacktivists, and private companies.

The briefing further detailed that Cyprus, along with France, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, Austria, Slovakia, Romania, and Finland, experienced intrusions into government networks or acts of sabotage against critical infrastructure.

The EPRS emphasized that cyberspace is increasingly utilized for hybrid activities. Cyberattacks can disrupt critical infrastructure and essential services, serve espionage purposes, manipulate information, and impact military command and communication systems.
