Cyprus, Greece, and France Leaders Affirm Unity and Solidarity at Paphos Air Base

Paphos: A message of unity and solidarity was sent on Monday by Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and French President Emmanuel Macron, following a trilateral meeting held at ''Andreas Papandreou'' Air Base, at Paphos district, on the southwest coast of the island.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the three leaders discussed the latest developments in the wider region. Greece and France had responded by sending military assistance to Cyprus following an incident at RAF Akrotiri on March 2nd, when a drone fired from Lebanon hit the base, causing damage.

"Unity is Europe's strength," stated President Christodoulides during their joint statements, expressing gratitude to the Greek and French leaders for their prompt response to his request for support. He emphasized that Cyprus' security is intertwined with Europe's security and highlighted the importance of collective responsibility.

President Christodoulides further noted the contributions of Greece, France, Spain, and Italy, emphasizing that their support exemplifies European solidarity in practice. He remarked that their aid contributes to the stability and security of the Eastern Mediterranean and serves as a model for the EU to follow.

French President Macron highlighted that an attack on Cyprus is tantamount to an attack on Europe, underscoring that Cyprus' defense capability is crucial not only for Cyprus and its ally Greece but also for France and the EU. He affirmed France's support for Cyprus and the region, especially as Cyprus holds the EU Presidency, stressing that the strategic autonomy for Europeans lies in the unity of an EU capable of self-defense.

Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis reiterated the historical ties binding the nations, declaring that the Republic of Cyprus "will never be left alone." He emphasized that the agreements between Greece, France, and Cyprus are being validated through their actions and that their strategic relationships have been tested and proven effective.

Mitsotakis also acknowledged the support from Italy and Spain, pointing out the necessity of collective action in crises to address potential future threats. He concluded by asserting the inviolability of every inch of European territory.
