Nicosia: Energy, security, and regional developments were at the forefront of a significant trilateral meeting between Cyprus, Greece, and Egypt in El Alamein. The meeting saw President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasize the strategic importance of their cooperation for the stability and security of the Eastern Mediterranean.

According to Cyprus News Agency, President Christodoulides described the meeting as 'informal in form but strategic in substance'. He highlighted the importance of the recent Final Investment Decision regarding the Kronos gas field, which signifies Cyprus' progression into the realm of natural gas exports to Europe through Egypt's infrastructure.

Egyptian President el-Sisi underscored the significance of the Egypt-Greece electricity interconnection and the potential for transporting Cypriot natural gas to Egyptian facilities for re-export to European markets. He also stressed the necessity of defense and security collaborations to tackle regional issues.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis reaffirmed Greece's support for the GREGY electricity interconnection and discussed the prospects of transporting Cypriot natural gas via Egypt to Europe. The leaders also addressed developments in Gaza, Syria, Lebanon, and Libya, reiterating their commitment to a two-state solution and adherence to international law.
