Cyprus Finance Minister to Temporarily Lead Eurogroup Following Donohoe’s Resignation

Nicosia: Cyprus Finance Minister Makis Keravnos announced on Wednesday that he will temporarily preside over the Eurogroup until the election of a new chair. This development follows the resignation of Paschal Donohoe, who is set to take on a role at the World Bank.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Keravnos was asked by the press about his sentiments regarding his interim role in the Eurogroup. He downplayed the significance of his temporary position, stating, “This is a very simple matter, let’s not exaggerate it.”

Keravnos further elaborated that with the resignation of the Eurogroup President, he has been requested to chair the upcoming meetings until a new leader is chosen. He also mentioned that he had previously fulfilled this role three months ago, indicating his familiarity with the responsibilities involved.
