Cyprus Experiences Seasonal Low Pressure Affecting Coastal Winds

Nicosia: The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has forecasted a period of mainly fine weather for the sea area extending 8 kilometers seawards from the coast of Cyprus. This forecast covers the timespan from 1800 on September 23, 2025, until 1800 on September 24, 2025, with atmospheric pressure recorded at 1013 hPa.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the seasonal low pressure currently impacting the area is expected to result in good visibility conditions and a sea surface temperature of 27°C. The forecast has not issued any warnings for the period.

Along the west coast, winds during the night are anticipated to be northwest to northeast at a strength of 3 on the Beaufort scale, leading to a sea state described as smooth to slight. By morning, winds will increase slightly to a strength of 3 to 4, maintaining the smooth to slight sea conditions. In the afternoon, northwest winds are expected to strengthen to 4, occasionally reaching 4 to 5 locally, causing the sea state to shift to slight to moderate.

For the south coast, northwesterly winds at night and in the morning are predicted to maintain a smooth to slight sea condition with a Beaufort scale strength of 3. In the afternoon, winds will shift to the southwest at a strength of 4 to 5, resulting in a slight to moderate sea state.

The east coast will experience northwest winds at a strength of 3 during both night and morning, with a smooth to slight sea state. In the afternoon, southwest winds will increase to a strength of 4, occasionally reaching 4 to 5 locally, causing the sea state to be slight.

On the north coast, variable winds at a strength of 3 will create a smooth to slight sea state during the night and morning. By the afternoon, winds will shift to a northwest direction, increasing to a strength of 4 to 5, occasionally dropping to 3 to 4, resulting in a slight to moderate sea state.
