Nicosia: A Cypriot official who briefed the press on Monday morning, following P©ter Magyar's sweeping electoral victory in Hungary, said that the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU intends to unblock the £90 billion loan package for Ukraine and the 20th package of sanctions against Russia as soon as conditions permit. As the official stated, "our goal as Presidency remains to conclude both the £90 billion loan package for Ukraine and the 20th sanctions package as soon as possible."
According to Cyprus News Agency, the official emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, "We intend to put it on the agenda of COREPER as soon as conditions permit, with a view to a swift conclusion of both files." The Cyprus Presidency is actively working to prioritize these critical financial and diplomatic initiatives amid the ongoing geopolitical tensions.
In addition, the official noted that the EU's Permanent Representatives are expected to hold two meetings this week, with the agenda to be communicated in due course. These meetings are anticipated to play a crucial role in advancing the discussions on the loan and sanctions packages, highlighting the Cyprus Presidency's commitment to addressing these pressing issues promptly.
