Cyprus Engages in EHF Handball’s Emerging Nations Summit

Budapest: Cyprus participated in the handball’s emerging countries meeting organized by the European Handball Federation (EHF) earlier this month in Budapest, the national handball federation (CHF) said on Wednesday, noting that one of its priorities was the development of the sport from the grassroots, and especially women’s handball.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the country was represented by the Head of Women’s Handball Development, Board Member, Isabella Tymviou. In addition to Cyprus, the meeting was attended by Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Georgia, Estonia, Great Britain, Ireland, Moldova, Malta, and Monaco.

As per CHF’s announcement, the leadership of the European Federation heard from their emerging members the challenges they face and the plans regarding the development of handball in each country, while successfully implemented programs in countries such as Germany, Georgia, and the UK, were presented as examples.

As noted, the CHF, under the leadership of Konstantinos Filaretou, attaches importance to international relations and the international representation of Cyprus. The CHF is to organize a Women’s EHF EURO 2026 Qualifiers group, with the participation of the Cyprus national team.

The development of the sport from the grassroots, and especially women’s handball, is a priority, the Federation said, hence Tymviou’s participation in the Budapest Summit. The Summit participants had the opportunity to watch the Final-4 of the Women’s Champions League, the final of which was attended by 19,469 spectators, the announcement said.
