Cyprus: Cyprus economy is growing at a rate more than three times that of the eurozone, where growth stood at 1%, Finance Minister Makis Keravnos said in a statement on Friday, referring to preliminary data from the Statistical Service showing 3.3% growth in the Cypriot economy in the second quarter of 2026.
According to Cyprus News Agency, in his written statement, issued following the release of the Statistical Service data, Keravnos said the Cypriot economy 'continues to grow at strong rates', confirming, as he noted, its resilience and momentum in a particularly challenging European and international environment.
As the Minister said, the preliminary estimate of 3.3% growth in real GDP in the second quarter of the year takes on particular significance when compared with the eurozone, where growth stood at 1%. 'Cyprus is therefore growing at a rate more than three times that of the eurozone,' he said.
Keravnos stressed that this performance was neither a random nor a temporary result, but reflected, as he pointed out, prudent fiscal management, the stability of the financial system and increased investor confidence, as well as the dynamism of Cypriot businesses and workers.
At the same time, he underlined that the Government was not overlooking international uncertainties or the pressures that households and businesses continue to face. 'That is why we do not view the positive indicators with complacency,' he said, adding that the aim was to turn the positive economic performance into 'greater fiscal security, new investment, more and better-paid jobs and targeted support for society'.
Concluding, the Finance Minister said the Government's cautious and proactive fiscal policy strengthened the credibility of the Cypriot economy and created the conditions for an economy that is 'more productive, more competitive and more resilient', for the benefit of citizens.
