Cyprus continued to make progress on strengthening the banking sector’s counterterrorism financing efforts, according to the State Department’s 2020 Country Report on Terrorism. Outlining major developments in the past year, the report notes, among others, that the Green Line provides a significant route for the illicit transit of people and narcotics. The termination of Cyprus’ citizenship-by-investment program will help prevent terrorists, and their sponsors and financiers, from buying an EU passport and the enhanced access to EU financial systems that comes with it, the State Department adds.
