Cyprus clinches a silver and a bronze medal at the 50th European Karate Championship

Cyprus has clinched a silver and a bronze medal during the last day of the 50th European Karate Championship (U16-U18-U21) that took place in Larnaca on February 3-5, according to Cyprus Karate Federation.

Seventeen year old Stavros Charalambides secured the silver medal after four consecutive victories, while 19 year old Irene Kontou won the bronze medal also with four victories.

In statements Charalambides thanked the Cyprus Karate Federation for giving the opportunity to athletes to participate in many important championships, noting that he is proud of what he achieved.

On her part, Kontou said that the medals she and Charalambides secured give an impetus to other athletes to pursue their dreams and thanked the Cyprus Karate Federation for its constant support.

At the Championship, Spain ranked first with 6 gold and 7 bronze medals, Italy won the 2nd place with 5 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze medals, while Ukraine was 3rd with 4 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals. Cyprus ranked 21st with 1 silver and 1 bronze medal.
